Our story
Made slowly, in
Portland.Since 2014 we've built sofas, chairs and beds the old way: hardwood frames, hand-tied springs, fabric cut for one order at a time, and sold them without the markup of a middleman.

The workshop
It started with one sofa in a Slabtown garage.
We couldn't find a sofa that was deep, well made and honest about its price, so we built one. Friends asked for another. Twelve years later there are 26 of us in a brick warehouse a few streets from that garage.
Every piece still made to order
Upholstered, sewn and signed by someone who works here.

Since 2014
From a garage to three showrooms.
We have grown one workbench at a time, and every upholstered piece is still made a few streets from where the first sofa was.

How we build
Three things we never skip.
They're the parts you can't see in a photo, and the reason we can put ten years on every frame.
Kiln-dried hardwood
Responsibly sourced oak and ash, glued, dowelled and corner-blocked. No particleboard, ever.
Springs tied by hand
Eight-way hand-tied coils under every seat, so a sofa keeps its shape for decades.
Fabrics that last
Every fabric rated for 50,000 rubs and free of PFAS stain treatments.
The people
26 makers who sign the frame.
Frame makers, upholsterers, cutters and designers. Come by the Slabtown showroom and you will likely meet one of them.

“A sofa is the one thing in a house everybody uses every day. It should be built like it, and it should come back to us, not the landfill, when you're done with it.”
